LESSON: Armor of God

Feet Fitted With

Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. Ephesians 6:14-15 NIV

NOTE: bold used for my emphasis

When Jesus ascended into heaven, he gave the disciples (and us) a mission. "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation" (Mark 16:15). This mission is emphasized in some fashion in all four gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John). The account in John stands out more in my mind because of the conversation Jesus had with Peter in the boat.

Remember Peter was by Jesus' side for three years. In Matthew 16:15-19, Peter was the one who said , "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." Jesus replied, "And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it." This same man also wanted to keep Jesus from fulfilling his plan and Jesus had to say "Satan, get behind thee." The lowest point for Peter in the scriptures was his denial of Jesus three times.

Despite the ups and downs of this impulsive man, Jesus still had a purpose for him. In John 21:15-17, Jesus asked Peter three times "Do you love me?" After each answer Jesus told Peter the best way to demonstrate that love was to "Feed my sheep." He wanted Peter to tell others about the good news. The good news was Jesus paid a price for humans so we could experience God's grace (forgiveness of sins).

After the disciples were baptized by the Holy Spirit in the Upper Room, Peter led the first revival. Here are a few words from his powerful sermon:

"Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off--for all whom the Lord our God will call." With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, "Save yourselves from this corrupt generation." Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day." Acts 2:38-41 NIV

Did you see the number of people who were saved? Now that's a revival! Satan does not want us to spread the gospel. He is trying to entrap as many victims as he can. He wages a war against Christians in this area today.

How? Many Christian DO NOT witness. They are too afraid of what others may say. People often accuse Christians of pushing religion, so many of us tend not to say anything when we should. Satan is pleased with us!

We have to be willing to take the news of the gospel outside of the church. I feel sometimes saved folks don't share their testimonies enough. We don't talk about Jesus enough. Even more importantly we don't demonstrate how the good news has changed our lives.

Whatever size shoe you wear, make sure "your feet are fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace."
