You definitely need a copy of God's Word, the B-I-B-L-E. Most folks have the King James Version. While the language is beautiful, sometimes it might be helpful to get another translation.

There are a lot of translations. Go to a local bookstore and take the time to thumb through the pages. Read a few passages until you find one you feel comfortable with reading. You might like to have several different translations on hand.
